Lightning to SD card reader

I just purchased a "lightning to SD card reader" to import selected pictures and videos from a SD card to my IPAD. When I connected everything together and hit the import button on my IPAD only a limited number of the pictures showed up. None of the videos on the SD card showed up on my IPAD.. Is there any limitation on how many pictures and videos from a SD card can be imported?

iPad mini Wi-Fi, iOS 7.1

Thanks Robdrage. I talked to apple guys (at the local apple store) and evidently the Sony video (which I used to take videos) is not compatible with IPAD ( I wish I had known this before). He said there are applications that can convert the Sony video format to IPAD format. Has anybody used this application?
