Since iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and will store them so that you can listen to them later, is there a way to remove them from my IPhone after listening so that I still have space on my hard drive?

You can delete a song directly from your iPhone by swiping from right to left over the song:
Remove a song that’s been downloaded. Swipe left, then tap Delete.
