Can I use reset fascility on my 5th gen. nano. When I could not switch it off I tried to connect to my computer...message said it was corrupted....that I should restore, tried this, and noted that it was registering as having zero capacity, help!

Problem and question in my title....sorry. My iPod nano would not switch off but when I connected it to my computer it said the iPod was corrupted....have tried to restore (restore window said it had zero capacity...unable to find out how to do reset utility for 5th generation model. Any ideas, please?

There is no separate reset utility for the current iPod shuffle, which is the 4th gen model. You do a Restore using iTunes to "reset" it to its original (out of box) condition.


Connect shuffle. Select it in iTunes, so that you see its Summary screen. The Restore button is there, on the Summary screen. If it says something there (on the Summary screen) about "zero capacity," ignore it and click the Restore button. Follow the prompts to complete the Restore.

LOL! Yes it worked....however I had tried this several times last evening (8 hours ago)...in fact having clicked on restore for the third time I left the iPod plugged connected over night after the download had completed. (after an hour I had gone to bed). This morning I unplugged and plugged in again, and voilá it began sychronising. A comforting sight...I love my iPod and was resigned to buying another! Thanks for your help.
