?I have a Macbook, OS X 10.5.4, it wants to update combined 10.5.8, When it tries, it says configuring and freezes. Help

I have a MacBook using OS X 10.5.4. Software update wants to update to "combined 10.5.8. When I click install, it says configuring update and the blue activity bar move about a quarter of an inch and seems to freeze. No change after 30 Min. Help. I do not know it it is a Leopard OS. thanks

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.


(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)


Then get the big combo & install it manually...


Repair Permissions twice in a row afterwords, reboot.
