Using an old and a newer AirPort Extreme on one network

I have an old original AirPort Extreme (the first kind, before the 1st gen) and I have a 4th Gen AirPort Extreme.[AirPort Extreme Models by Generation] I would like to make them both work together on one network. Right now I am using the 4th gen, but I could use either of them as a primary AE. Could I do that and if I can, how would I? Also, would it help?

No, it's not going to work. The current Airport Utility can't even configure the old AEBS. Get another new one.
