If you are using Fast User Switching to run a complete second login, it takes a very large amount of RAM memory to do that.

If you do not have "a very large amount of RAM memory" in your Mac, it will simultaneously do a memory test while performing a Hard drive destruct test.

If this is a Mac Pro 40lb silver tower, you need to buy a boatload more memory and install a separate Boot Drive.

If this is a MacBook Pro Notebook computer, you need to disable that feature and run one user at a time, logging out when making the transition.
