If it's on the Mac's desktop, it is mounted by the system.
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected. You don't see it there?
no it doesnt appear under devices....
If you don't have a problem with erasing the iPod, put it in Disk Mode

Connect the iPod to the Mac and run iTunes. If iTunes prompts you to do a Restore, do the Restore. This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings. If your "other laptop" was a Windows PC, the iPod's storage will be reformatted to the Mac disk format. It should appear in iTunes when the Restore process is complete.
It wont let me get to Disk Mode, i hold down both volume down and home and the apple flashes then it goes back to main screen
Oh, I thought this iPod was an old iPod "mini." It's a more recent iPod nano with a touch screen. You may not be doing the third step fast enough after the Apple appears.
ok i got it into disk mode and then connected the nano to my mac, still not appearing in itunes....
iTunes did not says something about an iPod in recovery mode, and prompt you to do a Restore?
Does the iPod still appear in on the Mac's desktop? If so, quit iTunes and run Disk Utility. Does the iPod's disk appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?
Okay I got it, I erased it in the Disk Utilities then reconnected it and FINALLY!!!!
Thanks 🙂
Since you erased it using Disk Utility, it should be formatted for Mac now. However, you still need to do a Restore in iTunes, even if iTunes does not prompt you to do it. After erasing it in Disk Utility, the iPod's onboard software is no longer there. The Restore is needed to reinstall it.
