i am trying to install microsft office for mac on my new macbook pro laptop. the software downloads properly, and installs the icons on my dockbar, but then a pop up comes saying "microsoft office setup assistant cannot initialize" or something of that nature, and tells me to report the issue to apple, but does not tell me how to resolve the issue. what else do i need to do to make the install work?

Try restarting your computer and running the installer with no other programs running. Sometimes there are conflicts but the error doesn't tell you what they are.
I tried rebooting the computer twice, ensuring no applications were running, installed the software and still get the pop up.
That's about the extent of my experience with that sorry. Are you downloading direct from MS or somewhere else? Can you get the installer from another source?
