Q: how to get rid of ads in safari

The easiest method is to first turn on the popup blocker in Safari Preferences. Then in Safari - Preferences - Extensions - You will find Ad Blocker, please install that too.

I use AdBlock:

and it works pretty well. Nothing can block all ads, since the ad developers work very hard to prevent being blocked and often use code that if blocked keeps most web pages from working either.
