Can I run MainStage from an external hard drive?

I am trying to keep a dedicated backup of my live Mainstage rig on a Thunderbolt drive, onto which I have installed a Mavericks partition and OS. In case of a catastrophic hardware failure, I would like to be able to boot from my external and proceed with the show.

Logic Installed successfully (but having MIDI clock issues) - ultimately not trying to run Logic, but wanted access to the additional content provided.

I am having a hard time finding information on this topic and would like to know if anyone has been successful running Mainstage from an external drive.

Mainstage 2

Late 2011 Macbook Pro

Mavericks 10.9.2

8 GB Ram

250GB SSD

external Lacie Thunderbolt 128GB bus-powered SSD

Tips or known issues greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi

Slow way:

Install OS and applications, plugins etc onto a newly formatted external drive, testing as you go along.

Quicker way: once you have the main OS etc working as you want make a bootable clone of it on your external Safety drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, Superduper or similar.
