What does no sim mean on my iPad?

    Exactly that.  That it cannot find any Sim installed in the sim tray.   You may need to open the sim tray and reseat the sim card.

    Alternatively a reset by holding down the home and sleep/power buttons until the apple logo shows up sometimes fixes the issue
