iphone 5s in do not disturb mode - can you get texts from numbers not in your contacts?

So I have been waiting for a text, not realizing my phone is in do not disturb mode. I have had the phone 2/3 weeks, and think this setting has been on the whole time! I have been receiving texts from people listed in my contacts, however I'm now wondering if that setting stopped my phone receiving texts from numbers not known to me?
