Q: my iPhone 4S is smashed, I was able to retrieve the SIM card but I understand it only contains phone number, etc. Is there any way of retrieving my music, contacts, photos, calendar or notes? The phone still turns on, but is bent.

If you can connect it to your computer & it had no passcode on it, you may be able to retrieve some of your data.

It certainly won't do any harm to try.

iPhones store absolutely no data on the SIM.

Contacts, calendars, and notes are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.

Pictures are designed to be regularly copied off the device to a computer force safe keeping.

All media on the device should also be in iTunes on the computer, as designed.

iDevices are designed to be backed up to iTunes on a computer or an iCloud account regularly.

Have you failed to use the device as designed?
