Ipod shuffle 4th gen, 3 months, not showing in itunes

Did this work before on this computer, and it is not working now for some reason? Or is this the first time you are using it with this computer?
Make sure the plug on the USB docking cable is completely inserted into the headphones jack, as shown in this document

If that's not the problem, watch the shuffle's light as you connect it to USB. Does it come ON? If it does, what does it do?
