Unable to download apps from App store- including Mavericks

Trying, without much success, to download the OS X Mavericks Upgrade. It will appear in Launchpad as downloading, but I've left it for over a day with no progress. I've restarted the download several times. I've debugged using commands in the terminal- clearing cookies and resetting the application. I've tried to connect to ethernet using DNS server 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 with the search domains as www.google.com, as recommended on previous help threads with no luck.

Is it possible that my internet is simply too slow? I have no problems downloading big files outside of the App store. According to speedtest.com, my download speed is 1.27mbps, which I know is very slow. I'm in China and this is all I can get right now.

I appreciate any ideas.
