Slow opening and scrolling through architectural plans

When I open PDFs of architectural plans, they run very slowly and take a long time for each page to load. Some pages load extremely quickly, while other more complicated pages in the same file take a long time and frequently freezes "preview". Converting the file, compressing it or altering it in anywhat is a waste of time, as I look at hundered of these files per day from multiple servers. Adding RAM or altering the computer in any way doesn't make sense either, as I am running a 2014 Macbook Pro with 2GHz Core 7, 8GB RAM 1600 MHz DDR3. My co workers old PCs load and run them just fine.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
