at&t +1 (1) (216)116-11 error invalid number please resend using 10 digit mobile number

tried all the method proposed for former similar questions. None works. Even more confused about whether it is the problem of AT&T or apple or both? How can I solve it. It's really annoying!

First, for those who responded, the number you listed in your topic heading is NOT the number you were trying to call, but rather the number that responds with the invalid message error. I too, have been having that problem and that is the EXACT message I get when I try to send one. I text this person several times a day, and then a couple of days ago, it says it is an invalid number with the above message (you listed). I too, have deleted all messages to and from her, then erased her from my contacts and started over using the +1 in front. Nothing works. I can text others and only seem to have this problem with her. She is also an AT&T customer and we have the same area code (as do many others in my contact). THIS is driving me crazy! Did you ever figure yours out? I have tried everything! Thanks in advance!

American phone numbers don't look like that... It feels more like the Russian format than America.

You're missing a couple digits also, you have to enter 10 numbers to call another phone.

(only the last 7 are needed when in the same area code)

Standard formatting of a phone number looks like this:

+1 (212) 555-2299

+1- Country code (not needed unless on landline)

(212): area code

555- 2299 Phone number

Check your region settings, make sure they are set to the correct country.

It seems some telphone number work while other don't, yet all of which are American tel numbers. I really feel confusing about that.

The number you have above is not correct.

All US phone numbers are always formatted like this...

1 (800) 555-1212

The first 1 is the US country code.

The (800) is the area code.

Then there is a 7 digit number.

Sorry for my way of stating.

I mean all numbers are saved in my iphone as (xxx)-xxx-xxxx format.

Most of these numbers work well, but some newly saved numbers just don't work.

I tried to save such kind of numbers as 1(xxx)-xxx-xxxx, it still doesn't work.

The at&t guys just send test message using their own numbers and conclude that nothing wrong with at&t service.

What country are you and your phone from?

Is your region set correctly?

What are the errors with calling and SMS?

Do the numbers work on a different phone?

Are the numbers correct/not disconnected?

Are any of the problem numbers iMessage numbers?

Can you provide a list of the numbers that are a problem for you?

For privacy's sake, please use 5555 on the last 4 digits.

I can check for valid area codes and prefixes.

Are you in the US? If you are in the US, you don't need to call or text the full number unless it is a toll free number.

You can just use the 10 digit number XXX-XXX-XXXX

It seems the number is invalid so AT&T respond back saying that "at&t +1 (1) (216)116-11 error invalid number please resend using 10 digit mobile number"

If you are using the right number and you know for sure it is a working number, try delete the number in question that you try to text to like call history or text history of that number and just delete it. Do not delete the number in your contacts though. Delete history pertaining to it in calls and text.

Then try it again to text to the number.

Thanks so much! I figured out the text history problem about 5 minutes after I posted this. Seems lots of people out there are having this problem off and on with several carriers and all I could find were various attempts to correct it (which I tried). Seems the key is deleting the history, as it seems that is where it gets corrupted at some point. I believe that the number was incorrect in a group text at some point and it was trying to use it from that history (just a guess, as mine always worked and was the correct number up to the point that the group text came with the incorrect number).
