Mail Account - Password update

I recently updated/changed my password online for my gmail account. Now when I open my mail account on my MacBook I'm not allowed in to update the password there nor am I allowed access to the other mail accounts I access there. I get the spinning rainbow indefinitely. Any guidance will be appreciated. I expect it is a simple task.
