I have a macbook pro from 2009, that is currently running 10.5.8. I would like to upgrade to snow leopard, but from what I can tell, there is only Snow Leopard VIA disc. My disc drive on my macbook does NOT WORK. Is there any other way to upgrade my operating system??

Use an external optical drive which is compatible with your Mac. Apple's USB SuperDrive isn't intended for it and normally won't work.

The other, slightly more complicated way, is to find someone else with a Mac, and connect your MBP to it using Target Disk Mode (FireWire). They then insert the SL disks into their Mac, run the installer, and when prompted install it onto your MBP which will show as an external HD to the other Mac.
