404 error, domain error, on Google, Netflix, Tumblr, Etc...

404 error, domain error, on Google, Netflix, Tumblr, Etc...

Hey guys!

I noticed i'll be on google, and it does this weird 404 error thing, same with tumblr, netflix, facebook. Sometimes it just. won't work.

It's not that I entered the wrong url, it's when I click a link, as an example, on tumblr i'll be on it, click a link, and then 404 error. So I go back to my dashboard, 404 error. Refresh the page, 404 error.

AND SOMETIMES

The stupid thing gives me a domain error and the http:// is crossed out in red, and it says something along the lines of "blah blah blah this is not what you're looking for proceed anyway?" so i'll proceed anyway and

404 ERROR

Did I get lucky and get a virus?

It just does this crap. Sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for hours, and it ***** a lot.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

But the thing is, it only does this with Google, Netflix, and tumblr. It tries to redirect me to some weirdo website, instead of the one i'm on.

and I literally jut got this one.

I know errors happen, and it's normal, BUT I KEEP GETTING ERROR AFTER ERROR.

OH AND I GET CERTIFICATE ERRORS. A LOT.

From the menu bar, select

 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network ▹ Advanced... ▹ DNS

Under DNS Servers you should have one or more numerical addresses, such as “192.168.1.1” or “10.0.0.1”. What are those addresses?

Back up all data.

Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.

In Safari, select

Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data

and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?

Notes:

1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click Apply in order for any changes to take effect.

2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.
