iTunes will burn but can't "finish" CDs.

Does anyone else have experience with this problem? I even put in an external drive and got the same deficiency. I have to forcibly eject the CD in its "unfinished" state. Is a visit to the Genius Bar or Repairs the only solution?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with burning a disc on your iMac. I found some resources that I think might help:


First, I recommend resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac:

Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
  3. Wait fifteen seconds.
  4. Attach the computer's power cord.
  5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
