I have a couple classroom presentations that I need to access and they are in WMV files. When I click on them, I get an error that says they are not movie files. Any suggestions? I was told flip4mac extensions are needed but I am pretty sure they are installed and I get the same problem.

Install VLC or QuickTime 7. If they still don't work, they either contain DRM or malware, or are corrupt.

I have QT player 10.3. Don't know what VLC is but much as I cannot stand Parallels and WIN8, it runs there. Prefer not to run it there so I can get it into my ipod.
The version of the QuickTime Player bundled with Mavericks doesn't support plugins and only directly understands a handful of formats. You need to use a different player; if you want to convert the files, use MPEG Streamclip.

http://windows.microsoft.com/ru-ru/windows/windows-media-components-quicktime
It works on mountain lion and mavericks, I'm using it.
