I entered my gift card code number and I'm showing that I have a credit of $10 but as I try to purchase a song, it's asking for a code number. I no longer have the giftcard. How can I redeem my credit?

I loaded my account with an Itunes gift card for the amount of $10. I no longer have the card. Unfortunately, I discard thinking I no longer need it in order to redeem my purchases. I tried to purchase a song but Itunes is asking for a code number of some kind. I can see that I have the $10 credit but I'm not able to redeem my credit amount. Can you please help me redeem my credit?
