I need to transfer iphone contacts to computer can i do this?
Phone has been encrypted with a password with a backup done months ago - cant rememeber password, need to transfer phone contacts as this phoen is dying and wont hold charge anymore.

Everything should live on your computer. the iphone just allows your computers content to be portable. You should have been syncing them with your computer/cloud service from day one.
Have you failed to do this?
You can use outlook express to solved the issue about how to transfer contacts from iPhone to computer.
I have done this but it was not the easiest thing to do.
You need to go to info in your iPhone settings in iTunes, select where you want to back it up to in outlook or yahoo, windows or Google, then sync your phone and job done.
