Garageband 11 can't add new tracks

Recently I updated to ios Mavricks and downloaded the newest version of Garageband. When I try to create a new project I am prompted with the "specified number of tracks could not be created. Reduce the number of tracks and try again" error message. When i try to add a track it does nothing. I tried downloading the software again to no avail. How do you reduce the number of tracks and add new tracks? I want to record using a real instrument but it wont let me get to the menu to select that option. I have used Garageband 08 in the past and had no problems. Please help!

I apologize. It is Garageband version 10.0.2. As soon as I open up a new empty project I instantly get the error message. After I close the error message I am unable to add any new tracks. I have tried clicking on the + button to add tracks as well as Track and Add New Track and neither work. I have multiple GB of storage space left. Would it be possible that my older version (Garageband 08) could be causing a conflict?

Either GarageBand installed incompletely, some cached files in your user account are corrupt, or you have installed incompatible software.

To exclude corupted settings, cached files, etc in your user account sign into a different user account, for example the Guest account, and then test there. Does GarageBand work for a different user?

If yes, then start by trashing preferences files in your user account (you will have to enter all preference settings again, however):

Quit GarageBand and remove the following files from your user Libray

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist

and for GarageBand 10.0 also the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/

After removing the files log off and on again or restart the computer.

You user library may still be hidden, as is the default:

To make it visible in Mavericks:

  • Quit GarageBand .
  • Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house) in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options". Enable "Show Library Folder".

Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to Preferences.

That is a bit confusing. What is your GarageBand version? Your question says "GarageBand '11", but the text says newest and Mavericks. The "newest" version with Mavericks is GarageBand 10.0.2. Since this is very different from the previous "GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5", we need to know exactly, which version you are using.

Reduce the number of tracks and try again" error message.

Do you have enough free disk space?

I have multiple GB of storage space left.

Does that mean, at least 20 GB? Less than that would be dangerously low, and you should fre space asap.

As soon as I open up a new empty project I instantly get the error message.

Das another template work? E.g. songwriter?

Would it be possible that my older version (Garageband 08) could be causing a conflict?

GB 08 is probably incompatible with Mavericks, but I do not know, if it can cause conflicts with GB 10.0.

I have about 190 GB left. It wont let me do anything when I try and open up a new project. I instantly get the error message I mentioned before. It wont let me add any kind of new track. It doesnt even give me the menu to choose what kind of track I want to add (real instrument or loop).

Also, when I go into any other kind of option like songwriter, hip hop, or lessons, I cant hear any audio or loops. I cant even hear samples of instruments. I have tried changing the audio in Garagebands preferences to no avail.
