My old Ipod touch (3rd gen) won't turn on or charge

I haven't used my ipod in about a year, but i tried to charge it after all this time and it wont charge when connected to my laptop or the wall charger.

It wont even display the battery symbol when plugged in. is there any way i can fix my ipod or is it not going to work again

p.s i just had it on charge and it got unbelievably hot when it was on charge, too hot to hold for more the a couple seconds if that helps

Try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try another cable

- Try on another computer

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. From the hotness I suspect a hardware problem. Maybe only a bad battery
