Always check to see if the IMEI is showing up, if it is, recommend the iOS update


If it's not showing, they need to buy a new phone.


According to the issue the user is describing, it would seem like the latter and the GSM chip failed thus no IMEI anymore.


There seems to be a batch of iPhone 5's that have a faulty GSM chip and so it would randomly fail, producing the symptoms the user is experiencing.
