Just got new trackpad. When I turn on my mac (not wake it up), track pad does not function for a few seconds, during which, cursor doesn't move. Is this normal?

Hi, Kids,

Just got a new trackpad - my first one. Thing is, when I turn on my mac from dead (as opposed to just waking it up), the trackpad takes a few seconds to actually do anything. During this time, the cursor is there, but it's stuck up in the top right hand corner of the screen. After a few seconds, it comes to life and everything is fine. Is this normal? Is it just the trackpad connecting-up with the mac? I only ask because the same was not true with the magic mouse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot see why it should not liven up immediately. Have you got one of your settings wrongly adjusted? As a secondary matter, are you in the habit of shutting down your machine each night. You really don't need to; put it to sleep and only shut down every two or three weeks or so. If you are troubled about power usage, it is insignificant.

Thanks Seventy One.

I think I've got everything set up ok - but I'll check. With regards shutting down/putting to sleep - I live in the UK, so things like plumbing and electricals are not what you'd call advanced. When asleep, the computer will suddenly wake up if the kettle turns off (sometimes) or if various other electrical appliances turn on or off. I think the electrical bloke refered to it as 'leakage current'. The result being, I'd waltz upstairs and discover that my computer was on when it shouldn't be. Need a surge protector I think - but again, this is the UK; things don't seem to work how they should.

Any road, I'll check my settings. Nice talking to you.

Cheers!

Happy to have helped, Alkalon.

Can't imagine where you are, though. Are you in the Welsh mountains or the Highlands. Surge protectors are not that pricey.

As from being a tad more civilised, I have a castle on one side ... but Chatham on the other. Chatham is the original home town of the Chavs, I believe, and a good deal less civilised than I'd like.
