For the whole screen: Shift-Command 3

  1. For part of the screen: Press Shift-Command (⌘)-4.
  2. Drag the crosshair pointer to select the area.Continue to press the mouse or trackpad button, release the keys, then press Shift, Option, or the Space bar while you drag to resize the selection area.
  3. When you are ready to take a picture, release the mouse button.

To cancel, press Escape before you release the mouse button.
