Cursor not entering Office 365 mail search field

I am running Mavericks 10.9.2 and have all the latest updates on both my iMac and Mac Book Pro. When I originally bagan using office 365 for work within Safari, I could mouse click in the mail search field and the cursor would display and all worked fine.

Recently, the cursor stopped entering the field, as in mouse clicking does not place the cursor in the field to search. This only happens on Office 365. On another mac the operation works. Interestingly, if I run Chrome or Firefox on my macs, the Office 365 site works fine.

The only recent change to my environment is that I used the program AppCleaner to remove TeamViewer from my macs. This is the only common thread I can think of.

I contacted Microsoft support and they tested on all the browsers and could not replicate the problem. They suggested it had something to do with Safari.

Would appreciate any help in figuring out why the cursor will not enter the search field on Office 365 mail.

Microsoft is pointing the finger at Apple on this.

You are not alone.

I opened a case with microsoft support 1242456006 - 4/11/14 owa search does not work. Microsoft Support is unwilling to take on the issue claiming it is an Apple issue.

I am running a MacBook Pro with OSX Lion (10.7.5) same behavior as reported above with Firefox 28.0. I cannot test Safari 6.1.3 (7537.75.14) since OWA crashes Safari after the login, when the Admin Overview page attempts to load.

Hi,

Sadly I'm also in the same boat re my search function no longer working in my Office 365 mail on my Mac both in Firefox and Safari. Today I tested it out on a Microsoft PC and the search function works so very clearly an Apple Issue. Apple are lovely to deal with in general but I'm prety disaapointed I have to call and log yet another issue (spent hours last month trying to get my Gamil onto my Mac Mail server, no luck and again both Apple and Gmail blaming each other)

Anyone actually find a solution to this? I use my search function multipple times a day to find old emails etc and really need to get this solved.

Many thanks.

I just opened an SR with microsoft about this on my employer's O365 domain. We've had several calls in to our helpdesk since Friday, and I've verified it on my iMac (10.8.5 with recent updates installed).

They're asking me for details, and have not yet said it's an Apple problem, so maybe there's hope. I've pointed out to them that at least one affected machine is a Mac that hasn't been turned on in quite a while, let alone received any updates from Apple, which would tend to indicate that it's not an Apple-caused issue, but an issue with a recent change on the server-side in OWA.

All

Microsoft provided me with the following post:

Hi All,

Microsoft is aware of this issue and is actively working to resolve it. It has been fixed in the next build that is scheduled to be deployed in the Data Center in the coming few weeks. At this point, please use Chrome as a temporary workaround. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue and thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

It is a bit extreme to install another browser whilst MS fix this issue. The fastest way to fix it, and keep Safari as the default browser is to change the Outlook Web App Version in a single check box:

Our alternative workaround is as follows:

1. Login to Office 365

2. Go to Outlook

3. Go to Settings (cog symbol next to name in top right hand corner)

4. Goto Display Settings-->Outlook Web App version-->Check the box in the lower left corner for “light version of Outlook Web App”-->Press OK

You will need to log out and back in for the change to take effect but you can now use search again perfectly.

When they do fix this issue:

To revert back to the new look Outlook 365:

Go to Outlook – the old style will be displayed

Go to Option in top right hand corner

New information appears – on left hand side select Outlook Web App version

Uncheck Use the light version of Outlook Web App

Press Save above where you unchecked.

Once you have saved, log out and back in again and the current version will appear.

Why install additional browsers?
