Apr 11, 2014 4:18 AM in response to BeauBelle18by BobRz,Check your mail provider's recommended settings (for example, gmail.com). It sounds like your SMTP server is set up incorrectly. Who's the provider?

Apr 11, 2014 4:59 AM in response to BeauBelle18by jamjar44,I'm having exactly the same issue. I have tried resetting the outgoing server settings (several times now) & then restarting Mail, but the problem persists. I have also just lost an email in the process of trying to save it to Drafts. Extremely tedious. There is definitely something fishy going on.
One work around is to save your outgoing mail to drafts & use the iCloud online services to send mail (https://www.icloud.com/#mail)

Apr 11, 2014 5:17 AM in response to BeauBelle18by clover2306,similar problem, couldn't sync mail, was advised on the 9th April to remove btinternet mail account and re-add since then i have spent 2 days either on phone to bt or apple. I can now send and receive emails but for some reason and apple couldn't explain why either i have now an extra sent folder and trash folder all mail is in a muddle. Apple set up account as Account type is set as Yahoo! IMAP incoming mail server as imap.mail.yahoo.com and outgoing mail server (SMTP) as btinternet.com surely these should be the same. I don't understand why i have suddenly developed this problem as normally just clicking to add a Yahoo! account has set things correctly, Any help would be appreciated.
ps the extra trash and sent folders don't appear if i sign on though either the yahoo or bt website its only when using Mail!!!! very odd

Apr 11, 2014 5:19 AM in response to BobRzby jamjar44,Appreciate your help RobRz. However, my mail provider is Apple & I have looked in detail at their troubleshooting pages (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4002) & followed them to the letter...still the same problem.
My next step will probably to delete my account from the OSX Mail app & start all over again, as it is working fine in the iCloud Web App.

Do you use BT as your ISP, by any chance?

Apr 11, 2014 3:05 PM in response to Dave4259by BeauBelle18,You may all be interested to hear that I do now have an answer. I made an appointment with the Genius Bar and went into Apple today. Three different members of the team tried to fix my problem, each one more skilled than the previous one. The final outcome is that it's not my problem its a problem with the server. Apparently they are aware of it but it's not fixed yet so i'm still unable to send mail.
They deleated my account and started all over again as has been suggested above, but this didnt make any difference so you may not want to bother.
I'm managing to function by using the internet to log into my email account via iCloud and can send and receive mail here.
I'm hoping it's fixed by tomorrow but if not i've been given a number to call Apple.
