Deleting damaged or incomplete file,application,etc.

Hello all,

If you ever need help deleting a pesky file that is incomplete or damaged, just follow these simple instructions.

1. Locate file

2. Open Terminal (Finder -> Terminal)

3. Drag the file you are trying to delete into Terminal; this should open a new terminal file.

4. In the new window created by dragging the file in, type in remove.rtf and then hit enter.

5. Your file should now be deleted.

If you need any further advice, just ask. I'll try my best to help

I'm trying out your suggestion. I have a pesky file named "test" on my Desktop that is incomplete or damaged. I need help deleting it. I have located the file. I've opened Terminal. I tried to drag the file onto the Terminal icon in the Dock, but nothing happened. So now I've dragged it into the Terminal window, which I guess is what you meant. When I did that, I saw this:

$ /Users/me/Desktop/test

Then I typed in "remove.rtf" like you said, and had this:

$ /Users/me/Desktop/test remove.rtf

Then I hit enter, and had this:

$ /Users/me/Desktop/test remove.rtf

-bash: /Users/me/Desktop/test: Permission denied

$

The file is still there. What do I do now?

Linc, above, showed you that your 'instructions' dont work.

You dont understand exactly how much he knows about the topic you presume, wrongly, to know about.

Your OP wasnt a question, rather a "user tip"

A: this board is not for user tips, rather questions.

B: your 'tip' is wrong/ faulty / corrupt

C: As a new poster on this board you cannot post user tips.

refer to the TOU please
