Q: I'm having problems with my library on final cut pro 10

I know someone else had a little film reel icon in the bottom left of the screen which they could click on to see all their projects on a simple reel. I'm pretty sure that was on final cut pro 10. I have final cut pro 10 and when I start a new project, in order to view the old ones, I have to go to file, open library and then there's a list of events with numbers attached. None of the names that I gave the projects are visible (such as Amy's showreel) so it's trial and error, and sometimes I seem to open the same project twice and sometimes I go through all of them and can't find the project I'm looking for.

 

A related issue, when I started a project I obviously imported media into a new event and started editing things into the timeline. When I go to open a library, it seems to open all the events I've ever started and one project, and then the next one I try also opens all the events and one project, so by the time I've tried all of them to find what I'm looking for, there seem to be about 10 lists of identical events, so it looks as though Final Cut Pro has created duplicates of all the imports and also duplicates of projects, which would mean it's clogging things up unnecessarily.

 

The main problem is it seems to be a real mission to actually find past projects. The name I gave it when I started the project only seems to appear at the top of the timeline but no where else. I'm getting a bit stuck and if anyone has any answers then great, or if anyone has no idea what I'm talking about but has a good understanding of Final Cut Pro 10, then maybe I can explain things differently.

    Hi tomwardthomas,

     

    Welcome to the Support Communities!

     

    Did you update your Final Cut Pro X software from 10.0 to 10.1?  (On the menu bar click on Final Cut Pro > About Final Cut Pro).  If so, the file structure has changed quite a bit.  If you chose to Update All of your projects and events, your projects should be in an event named Updated Projects.     Where are all of my projects after I update to Final Cut Pro X 10.1?

     

    All of the projects that were in the Project library are collected in an event named Updated Projects at the top of the list of events in your new library in the Libraries list.

     

    Where does my media go after I update?

     

    Media that you stored inside your original event is stored inside your new library. Media that was linked to an external folder and not copied inside your original event stays in that external folder and is linked to your new library.
