Mac Pro Late 2013 and Samsung 4k monitor problem

Cinema 4D R15 so far is working well for me. So is the latest creative cloud and even the older Final Cut Suite. But there are slight visual glitches that occur in the finder window every now and then. Also, Safari seems to have some slowdown issues when playing video. Other than that, it's good.

This is the issue I have from the beginning with my Samsung monitor, even if everything else is working fine. Sometimes I have to replug monitor just to get signal when waking up computer, My machine is Mac Pro 2013 with D300 graphic.

My Samsung monitor has had a few issues waking but those seem to have gone away. It does sometimes take two tries to get the picture back. I haven't had to unplug it yet. After installing 10.10, it seems to be waking just fine with a single mouse click. Doesn't wake if I just move the mouse.

Basic apps seem to work fine, however, OSX Server 3.1.2 doesn't work with the new OS. The app doesn't start but the underlying settings seem to be intact and I can log into the machine with my iMac just as I did before.

Well, I managed to download the Yosemite 10.10 Public Beta, and tried it for a while to get a hold of it: for starters, wi-fi wasn't working out of the box. I had to search a little to discover that the kext for it had to be replaced for the DP3, no big deal though, easy fix. Other than that, I had visual glitches in Finder and Mudbox. It didn't render any of those unusable, but I didn't want to have to deal with them, mostly on Mudbox. Back to Mavericks I went!

On the other hand, I like the interface, it looks great on the Samsung U28D590! And yes, 60hz 4k res is working. Anyway, I'll wait for a more stable version...

I just purchased the Philips "Brilliance 288P6" to my Mac Pro w. D-700's.

It certainly has the same issues top-right. I've played around (inspired by joevt ;-), I've decided to wait for 10.9.5 or 10.10 in the hope that Apple got it fixed.

I followed it to the T and I am getting this error at the end "[ Error writing DisplayProductID-b80: Permission denied ]"

After I press Ctrl-X then Y and press enter when it asks "File Name to Write: DisplayProductID-b80".

Can you please help me?

Try creating the file elsewhere (in your home folder), then use the Finder to copy it to the appropriate folder. The Finder will ask you to enter your password. I don't know if it's necessary to change the file owner ("sudo chown root:wheel filename") and permissions ("sudo chmod 644 filename"). You can check permissions of the files with "ls -l".

Latest Yosemite release did not help me on my PB287Q. Still can only manage 4K at 30Hz. If I click "best for display" or select 60hz using SwitchResX, all I get is a black screen. I have a 6-way with twin D700's and I suspect that the D700's are the problem. Also, no luck in Bootcamp with the standard drivers. 60hz is selectable but it just doesn't sync to 60Hz and falls back to 30hz.

6-way? What are your other 5 monitors? Try the PB287Q alone first to make sure it works. If it works alone, then try adding one monitor at a time, first to each of the other 2 thunderbolt buses. Then lastly, to the bus the PB287Q is on.

Is your cable Display Port 1.2 compatible? A Display Port 1.1 cable won't work. You could try 50 Hz in SwitchResX by creating a custom timing for the display.

Are you referring to 6 cores when you say "6 way"? When plugging into the thunderbolt ports you need to keep in mind that there are 6 ports but 3 buses. Try running your monitor off the bottom thunderbolt port on the left hand side of the group of TB ports. Make sure that you have nothing else plugged into the HDMI port or the other bottom thunderbolt port on the right side of the group. This will ensure that enough of the video horsepower is moving through that thunderbolt bus unimpeded. Apple has a technical brief on the thunderbolt bus configurations somewhere on this support forum.

You want to make sure that your monitor cable is a good one as well like joevt says. You can check with Displayport.org on their choice of cables for this application. Is there a setting in your monitor that forces the input to "displayport" or "SST"? My Samsung seems to auto sense the source, however, I am not familiar with your monitor.

Regarding having to unplug the Samsung monitor to get it back after sleeping. This has happened for to me but only in one instance when I put the machine to sleep from the apple menu. Otherwise, if it goes to sleep with the power management settings, it will wake up no problem as well as turning the power switch on.

I apologise, I come from a different IT world to all of you where a 6 core device is referred to as a 6-way. The cable is certified as 1.2 and it works just fine on my Gigabyte Brix where it happily runs the PB287Q at 4K 60hz. I have read the bus layouts document and I came to the conclusion that it didn't matter which Thunderbolt port I used given that, at this port in time, I'm not using any of them for anything else.

Within BootCamp I have tried a beta AMD driver which actually supported 4K at 60hz but stability appeared to be an issue. What AMD driver are you all using?

here is my config : 6Core nMP Dual D500.

Asus PB287 (Week 20 of 2014)

Yosemite DP5 is stuck in 30Hz, and from time to time the screens blinks to black.

I tried 10.9.5 beta 1 with no luck.

I'm reverting to 10.9.4 and I'll apply joevt's override settings.

I was looking at the Asus monitor and it looks very similar to the Samsung but with an actual stand that can tilt and swivel!

One of the reviews said that the Asus had a fussy menu setup to switch from Displayport 1.1 to Displayport 1.2. That may be why the monitor seems to be stuck at 30 Hz.

I need to add a second monitor so maybe I will look at the Asus this time.

It's the same with the ASUS: you'll have to enable DisplayPort 1.2 in the menus:

Menu : System Setup : DisplayPort Stream : DP1.2 (or DP1.1)

Small Update:

I reverted to 10.9.5 beta + Joevt ovveride.

Screen is reporting 50Hz (which is good), UI is fluid.

But screen is stil getting black from time to time, which is really annoying.

I'm getting a new miniDP-DP cable. If the results are the same, it might be a faulty screen...
