How do you manually do it? What are you doing? What method do you think is the non-manual way? What reverts back after a few minutes?

The EDID of the ASUS monitor might have more info then Samsung's, but they both end up being 256 bytes, and you're only changing the preferred timing anyway so I don't so the problem there.

Anyway, I'll post an override for the ASUS later.

First thing i did was change the displayport adapter to use 1.2 on the monitor itself.

i plugged in a miniDP to DP cable and lo0aunched SWitchResX v4.4..

I then selected the PB287Q, went to custom resolutions and change the vertical revolution to 50hz

I then save, reboot,and activate the custom resolution. i looks good, and gets activated, and is what I want, but a few minutes later k the screen goes dark, and the monitor reverts to either 30 or 60 hz It seems to happen when mouse hits a hot corner defined as putting the display to sleep

I was under the assumption that this workaround would always there until it is disabled.

when i run ioreg -w -0 -l | grep EDID ( I get to entries fior my two monitors...)

The first one is from my LG34UM95, and the second one is from the ASUS PB287Q.

My questions revolve around how do i make the override file that gets placed in the /System/Library/Displays/Overrides folder.

Still stuck at 56Hz after I attempted to use this file not sure whats going wrong. I am using Plist Edit pro. While the information is all inputting properly and i'm getting a total of 256 Hex Bits i can't get the content on to one line. I'm not sure if this is causing my problem or what? PLUTIL is showing an OK after running it.

Even though I have the PB287Q (at least according to what I bought and the specs), it's actually showing up as a PB287/28a2 from my Mac's perspective, so I used that file since the data in the file is the same.

I tried using the override file and it definitely did make a difference because when I rebooted the resolution options had changed (I was still connected via HDMI). I switched to DisplayPort and something wasn't set up right because the screen would display an image for about half a second, then go black, then about a second later display the image, then black, etc.

I'm going to try fooling around with the resolution switching utility to see if I can figure it out myself, but just wanted to give a quick update.

Orrbain, the EDID you posted is the same as the other PB287/28a2 EDIDs (except for the serial number).

Below is a 50 Hz, non-CVT-RB override for the PB287/28a2. The EDID editor I used wouldn't allow 444.40 MHz so I went with 444.410 MHz. I removed the serial number.

Awesome! That worked! Including with the scaled resolutions! Hooray!

And honestly I can't detect much of a difference between 50hz and 60hz (except of course that there's no annoying artifacts on the right-hand side of the screen), but going from 30 up to 50 is a big improvement! So this will definitely help tide me over until Apple can come out with an official fix. I'll check back in a few days and let everyone know if it works well long-term.

Worked great this last fix, i don't know what happened that caused me to mislabel the files when i edited. Either way i now have 50Hz 4k working, thank you for all the help with this. Hopefully apple fixes this problem soon but until then 50Hz works fine i guess.

Well after using it for about half a day, there are still some issues. It seems like after using it for a while, things start to develop random artifacts, and especially after the display has been asleep it has a lot of issues where I have to unplug and plug it back in to reset things. So it's not a perfect fix. I don't think playing with it on our end is going to make it any better than this though, so I'll just cross my fingers and hope that at least someone at Apple has this on their radar...

I'm hoping someone can confirm that using a DisplayPort 1.2 compliant cable fixes this tearing on the right hand side of the screen on the Samsung U28D590 on Late 2013 Mac Pro (AMD FirePro D500)? I'm stumped why my existing cable works fine with my Late 2013 MBP on this very display.

Does anybody know a reliable seller to buy this cable (6 foot length -- B143B-007J) and actually has stock?
