Oct 3, 2014 9:18 AM in response to deanpalmerby PB_NB,I have not tried yet but I hope to have a second one soon. I have the D500's but I don't think it will be a problem to drive 2 of these monitors by assigning each monitor to its own Thunderbolt bus. And using Yosemite rather than Mavericks.
Now that the big box stores carry this monitor, it is easy to try and if it doesn't work, return the monitor.
It sounds like Yosemite will be released soon so the tearing problems will soon be a thing of the past.

Oct 3, 2014 9:20 AM in response to PB_NBby seminolefans,Word is that Yosemite DOES NOT fix the tearing problem... Good luck. I returned my Mac Pro and use my 15" MacBook Pro with zero problems.

Oct 3, 2014 9:35 AM in response to seminolefansby PB_NB,I don't know abut others but my experience has been a good one. As soon as I installed Beta 2 the problem went away. and now that we are at Beta 4, it is still working great.
I worked on making Mavericks work by editing the display files and got 54hz without tearing. but I found a little choppy when I moved windows around.
I hope that others have the same positive experience with Yosemite.

Oct 3, 2014 10:55 AM in response to PB_NBby deanpalmer,Despite all the rightfully negative comments arousing from this thread I am off to purchase 2 of the Samsung UD590's.
I am a member of the highly unfortunate group who opted for the mid-range D500 cards not knowing that it would prevent me from actually using what is modern consumer-level 4k display technology.
In regards to the Yosemite update fix: Being in audio for the past 13 years I've learned not to update OS's until the time is right. Otherwise, a plethora of problems arise with my AU plugins in Logic & Ableton... I still may give it a try if there is a possibility that I can revert back to Mavericks.
All that aside, does anyone know the code-fix to drive dual Samsung UD590's to 50-54hz in Mavericks? Will SwitchResX and the code previously posted work for this dual monitor setup?
My cables won't arrive until Monday or Tuesday since they are sold out everywhere so I have some time to mess around with these in the meantime. Hoping I can drop the resolution (temporarily) so I can use 2x HDMI cables while I wait.

Oct 19, 2014 1:13 PM in response to PB_NBby The_Dark_Passenger,Hi,
Can you confirm if the tearing issue is fixed in the consumer release of Yosemite? I'm considering picking up an ASUS PB287Q and want to know if this issue still exists. Or if it is working normally now in Yosemite.
It'd be great if others chime in about their experience with these monitors and Yosemite too.

Oct 19, 2014 1:27 PM in response to lllaassby The_Dark_Passenger,Is this the same right side tearing that was occurring in Mavericks? Also, how bad is the tearing?

Oct 19, 2014 1:49 PM in response to The_Dark_Passengerby rpalacio,If the "tearing issue" that you're speaking of is the distortion on the right side of the screen, I found that both the beta, and now the official release of Yosemite has fixed the issue. I no longer have that annoying distortion on the right hand side of the screen. To confirm, I am using a Samsung U28D590D running Yosemite 10.10 Rev. 14A389

Oct 19, 2014 2:06 PM in response to rpalacioby The_Dark_Passenger,That's good to hear. I believe the Asus PB287Q uses the same panel as that Samsung.
I have a LG 34UM95 currently, however I'm having an unsolvable and unacceptable Thunderbolt issue with it. And was thinking of possibly selling it and getting one or two of the Asus. True 4K will probably work better for my needs anyway.
It just seems like finding a completely compatible monitor for the Mac Pro is impossible unless you use one off Apple's list.

Oct 19, 2014 4:28 PM in response to The_Dark_Passengerby rpalacio,Why not just get the Samsung? Even when I had that distortion on the right-hand side under 10.9.5, I still thought the Samsung was stellar. But now that it is gone completely, I'm enjoying every single inch of it... literally! My only complaint is the stand. It's pretty flimsy and there's no VESA mounting in the rear, so you're forced to stay with the flimsy stand. Otherwise the display is truly stellar!
Cheers! -
Oct 19, 2014 4:36 PM in response to rpalacioby The_Dark_Passenger,The stand is a big reason. The adjustable height is really nice along with being able to swivel it into portrait layout. Also, I saw some videos, and some people are saying that the Asus' panel seems to be slightly better calibrated. The Samsung is cheaper though.

Oct 19, 2014 5:10 PM in response to The_Dark_Passengerby rpalacio,Well, if it's the same panel, but better calibrated, then you're in for a treat! Best to you!!!
Cheers!

Oct 19, 2014 11:40 PM in response to digitalcolemanby The_Dark_Passenger,I also just want to check and make sure, but has anyone had this issue with either the Samsung or Asus monitors? LG 34um95 Ultrawide Monitor Not Waking During Boot on 2013 MP

Oct 20, 2014 6:06 AM in response to The_Dark_Passengerby rpalacio,I have not experienced this issue with the Samsung. I have it connected with a 30" Apple Cinema Display and a 23" ACD And they all power up and wake up from sleep perfectly.
