Mac Pro Late 2013 and Samsung 4k monitor problem

I have the new Samsung 28" 4k screen (U28D590D) and it has tearing along the right edge when used with displayport. Any way to fix that? I tried different cables (all DisplayPort 1.2 complient) to be sure and have narrowed the issue to the Mac Pro. The HDMI works fine tho only @30hz so is a bit laggy in normal interaction. There is no way to turn on Multi-stream as indicated and I hope it isnt that this screen will never work.

When using "Legacy" displays the screen is re-drawn some 30 to 100 times a second even if it does not change a bit. If the re-draws stops, the screen goes blank.

it has tearing along the right edge when used with displayport.

When using DisplayPort, the screen data is sent ONCE, and then if nothing changes, the data link goes quiet. Scrren data re NOT re-drawn if they do not change.

Tearing down one side of a DisplayPort display is an indication that the DISPLAY has an Internal problem.

Perhaps "tearing" is not the right term? The last 5-10% of the screen has multiple images of anything running along the side. This only happens when I put the monitor setting to its native output. - 2560x1440 looks fine, 3840x2160 with the HDMI looks fine, 3840x2160 with displayport has the artifacting on the right side that flickers a bit and includes random white lines about 15% of the width of the screen. Also, I have two and both exhibit the exact same problem.

An additional confirmation of it likely being a driver issue - I used the same cable and the same 4k monitor with my MBP (late 2012) and it runs the full native resolution perfectly, no artifacts or errors at all. Because I recieved these a full week before their release date, im not that surprised or worried, but for those considering the screen, it does not seem to be fully supported yet.

The "Best for Display" setting gives the same error filled edge as the 3840x2160.

I had same problem too, The samsung monitor can't adjust the stream so it's reffresh reate it's locked at 56HZ, NOT 60Hz, may be this is the reason caused the "tearing" problem, I was call samsung service department, thsy told me they know nothing about it, and this monitor is design for Windows not fro Mac...............

And there is another problem, when you use displayport connect to Mac Pro, when Mac Pro went to sleep you can't wake up monitor by using keyboard, it will stay dark unless you push the monitor switch again, but if you choose by using HDMI 30Hz mode it will be work fine.....

This "tearing" problem only on AMD VGA with OSX. Nvidia 4K @ 60hz operation is well... OSX and WIN

FWIW,

I have updated to the Beta 10.9.3 and it is still an issue. Im super unhappy my 8k Mac Pro cannot use one of the few 4k monitors in the market.

I know Samsung does say it's support Mac, but which one in 4K/60Hz mode? I am very sure not MacPro 2013, How can I change my graphic cards inside my new Mac Pro?

If it's support Mac, Mac Pro 2013 should be inculded, because it's the only model from Apple support 4K/60Hz! I wondering is any Mac Pro come with Nvidia card or which Mac is capable to install Nvidia 4K Graphic card?

nMP(late 2013) can't change graphic card...

I also have a problem when using the AMD card on My Mac Pro (Mid2012) OSX 10.9.3,

however, Windows(Bootcamp) OR with Nvidia GTX 760 4K 60hz OSX, Windows both working very well.

Probably... AMD OSX driver issue..

This article notes that to use the two mentioned displays at 60Hz, one must re-set the DISPLAY's internal settings:

Perhaps the Samsung display has a similar setting and would respond in a similar way ?

There is no setting on this monitor for the multistream. I do not want to install windows on this new machine just to find out if the windows drivers in bootcamp work.

digitalcoleman, since you have tried the 10.9.3 beta, you should be able to report the problem using the feedback assistance tools.

I also wonder anyone else have tried this monitor using Macbook Pro Late 2013 15 inch and see the similar problem. I have order my samsung but it's backorder. If I know the monitor won't work with Macbook pro, then I may just cancel my order.

If you going to use this monitor to connect to MacBook Pro, it should be ok, this monitor work fine at 4K/30 Hz both MacBook Pro and Mac Pro 2013!
