Display not coming on after sleep

Alright so ive looked for awhile and found this is pretty common, except all ive found talks about either imacs or macbook pro. I have an early 2008 model macbook with snow leopard. This has been happening for quite a long time, even before installing snow leopard. If the computer goes to sleep either from time lapsing, or mostly how it happens, from closing it, most of the time i cannot get the display back on until i restart by holding the power button down. Everything ive seen on here so far, nobody has an answer, so does anybody know how to fix this problem yet?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

the first thing to try is resetting the pram/nvram

if this doesnt work it could be a loose display cable.

i resett the nvram, didnt work, if it was a loose cable wouldnt it also effect it if i shook the computer or anything like that? It only does it when it goes to sleep or when i close the computer and just some of the time. I did a complete reinstall and it still does it. So im guessing it is hardware, if its a loose cable is it possible to open it up and fix it?

its quite easy to take the bottom casing away from the mac, have a close examination yourself the prob might be apparent. be careful to remember where the longer screw sits when re assembling.

Hey Ryanmd, i have the same problem ( white macbook early 2009) so far the only solution i found: system preferences, energy saver, computer sleep: never, check on put hard disks to sleep when possible, The display goes to sleep anytime you want to, and wakes up faster with a click, this works for me.
