iTunes needs to be installed on the computer, and your songs need to be in the iTunes library. It's not clear to me if you have been using this iPod already, and you want to add "new" songs, or if this is a new shuffle that you are using for the first time...

If this is all new to you, you can download the latest iTunes installer here

https://www.apple.com/itunes/

You can add songs manually, or using automatic syncing. In case there are songs on the iPod already, and you want to add new songs to what's already there, this is how to add (and remove) songs manually. I'm assuming your shuffle is the current 4th gen (or 3rd gen) model.

First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. When connected, the iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.

To add songs manually... Show a song list in iTunes. For example, click on Music under LIBRARY (in the sidebar) to show your main iTunes music library list. Drag a song from the list to the iPod in the sidebar. You can do this with more than one song selected. Alternately, right-click the selection and choose Add to Playlist -> [name of your iPod].

To remove songs manually... Click the small triangle to the left of the iPod's name (in the sidebar) to drop down its content list, indented below the iPod. Click on Music there. The list of songs on the iPod is shown to the right. Select the song you want to remove and press Delete on keyboard. You can do this with more than one song selected.

Please post back if you want info on how to use automatic syncing to manage content on the iPod. It is more convenient, once set up.
