Q: cannot mirror imac, only extend, any advice please?

Imac, when trying to mirror the screen to my apple tv, it automatically reverts back to extended desktop immediately.

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), Apple tv

Use a supported Mac on a supported OS.
If the issue persists, post to the appropriate Mac forum. The issue is not with the ATV.
