I have a macmini running MacOS 10.6.8 and recently purchased in Apple Store the new FaceTime. Installed it and I can't activate it with my Apple ID. Any thoughts??

I am experiencing the same trouble.

My father-in-law has been using FaceTime 1.0.2 on his MacBook running OSX 10.6.8 without any problem till yesterday, but after he updated his FaceTime to v.1.0.4, he cannot activate it with his Apple ID.

As he asked for help, I tried with my Apple ID, and then I tried three different networks, all in vain. It looks to me that the cause of the trouble is neither in Apple ID or networks, but in the v.1.0.4 application itself.

Contrary to its release note, v.1.0.4 seems to CAUSE connection problems.

Thanks Corgi, that's exactly my own problem! It´s amazing how Apple allowed this!! I'm a Mac user since the mid 90's and something like this never happened to me! With others yes, with Apple, never.... until now!! Thanks a lot for your time anyway. If I find something useful for both of us, I will notify you. Best regards from Aveiro, Portugal!

When I use to use a PC, as it got older, in my case Gateway, as something old was upgraded the item would no longer work. After a year of many of these problems I purchased a new one. Perhaps Apple with all their new stuff has the same idea.

This FaceTime 1.0.4 is second problem in 2 days with a download upgrade. 2 days ago I downloaded an upgrade to Flash Player and could no longer get any videos.

Not much of a computer if you can't get videos on line and can't use FaceTime. I was able to correct the Flah Player problem by finally deleteing the 13 and reinstalling 12 Flash Player.

I have 2 computers and made changes on just 1 in both these cases. The other computer has never stopped working properly and has had no upgrades.

Both computers are on same wifi, so it's software, software. Last time I will download.

I reported this trouble also at the Apple Support Communities in my country Japan, and so far seven people clicked "I have this question too." button, which suggests this is a bug affecting considerable number of users.

While I guess Apple may have already noticed the problem, I sent them a bug report in the form of product feedback just to make sure they will fix the problem asap.

Apple should have tested the update before they released it to the public, or did they ?

As I suspected, there is a lot of users who have the same problem. I don't know if Apple is aware of it... But, as a matter of principle, I think I'm going to address a formal complaint to Apple. It's not relevant the amount of money we paid for this app. We, Apple users, deserve that all the stuff Apple creates and sells, works as expected. And it's not a problem of malfunction, it's a problem of not working at all!!

I have a same problem.
It has not improved, although I and 'Apple Care Support Japan' battled this issue for 1 hour or more.
I used the following methods in order to return to a previous version.
This is that I performed uniquely.
There is no evidence that this is a right method.
Therefore, those who try to do it are self-responsibility.

(1) I deleted four files.

/users/account_name/Library/preferences
com.apple.FaceTime.plist
com.apple.imservice.FaceTime.plist

/users/account_name/Library/preferences/ByHost
com.apple.FaceTime.XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX.plist
com.apple.imservice.FaceTime.XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX.plist

(2) By using TimeMachine, I restored previous FaceTime.app in Application folder.

The four deleted files are generated automatically.

Same problem here with 10.6.8.

I also updated to Facetime 1.0.4 and ever since then, it won't login.

Restoring the old 1.0.2 version from my backup solved that problem. It logs in again. Still, ever since before christmas of 2013, Facetime does not really work reliably for me anymore, lots of connection issues with my Facetime buddies, which I did not have before.

The 1.0.4 update stated, that it would resolve these connection problems;-)) Well....

Found a solution.

The 1.04 version of FaceTime definitely has a bug.

Solution? Revert back to the previous version.

If you have a recent or near recent cloned backup of your previous system and the earlier version of FaceTime is in your previous system backup, you can simply drag out the new, improved version out of your Applications folder (the new, bug ridden 1.04 version I placed in my home folder. ) drag out the dock icon, as well (as it may still be linked to the new version of FaceTime).

I dragged out of my cloned system backup (still located in my Applications folder) my previous 1.02 version of FaceTime into my current system into my current Applications folder and then dragged the FaceTime icon back down into my OS X Dock.

Click on the FaceTime icon in the Dock and voila, you will have a working FaceTime version, again!

Once you have a working FaceTime back, you can decide if you want to drag the new version (still saved in your Home folder) into the OS X Trash and empty.

So sorry to learn this.

There is no other way that I know of to revert to the older version of FaceTime because Apple doesn't leave the older versions of their apps up on the Mac App Store servers. (They do this same dumb thing with iOS upgrades and apps).

You need to submit feedback/bug report.

Submit this under the feedback for your type of Mac as there is no way to submit feedback for just FaceTime only or based on eartlier OS X versions.

This is why having proper backups of your entire system is prudent and can come in handy.

You should have a conputer back plan, anyway.

Everyone using a computer should have system/data backup plan.

Just my opinion, but I, absolutely, dislike Apple's Time Machine app for backups. Do not like Time Machine, at all.

It has failed me more than a couple of times when I needed it to work and I no longer use it or rely on it a second backup app or plan.

IMO, the best backup plan is having a hard drive or two OR large capacity USB Flash drive or two and using a data cloning app such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, create exact and bootable clones of your entire system on these drive/s. I am a little lazy, I do only bi-weekly cloning of my main system if I have been doing a lot of. work or projects on my system. If I am really busy with projects I will clone my system once a week.

Realistically, you can/should create new clones of your system on a daily basis, but I regularly burn discs of data and projects I want to save, so I feel that a complete cloning of my system every two weeks has been working for me. I have had this system working for me for quite aa few years and hasn't ever been an issue.

You can decide how often you want to clone your own data and system. Just make it a regular habit if you spend enough time working in front of your computer.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.
