Hi abs331,

I understand you want to do a recovery of an iPod Touch this is fairly easy.

It just depends on the type of iPod Touch she has. Would you be able to inform me what model it is: iPod Touch 1st Generation, 2,3,4 or 5th?

This will help accurately recover the iPod and do it efficiently because the iPod Touch 4 and 5 are able to be recover through iCloud Backup if it is enabled allowing recovery wirelessly and without iTunes, it will most likely also be a latest update.

Many Thanks

Hi abs331,

Just quickly do you mean that the iPod Touch has been disabled after many attempts with wrong passcode, however you know the passcode and just want to bypass the "disabled status". If so just plug the device into the computer that is running the iTunes account and when iTunes opens this will remove the temporary disablement on the device and will enable you to unlock it if you know the passcode.

Many Thanks

Hi abs331,

If you do not know the passcode and would like to restore and recover the iPod Touch 4th Generation or 5th Generation there are 2 options to recover.

Before you can recover however you will need to download the restore software from iTunes that will erase the iPod and then once this is done this will enable you to place any back up of the device back onto the iPod.

To download the restore software:

  1. Open iTunes
  2. Click on iPod (it will be located in the right near iTunes store)
  3. Click restore iPod
  4. Click yes and agree to all the T&Cs
  5. This will then prompt iTunes to download the software over the internet. It will be around 1.3GB in size and can take anywhere from 5mins-2hrs depending on your WIFI router (802.11ac, 802.11g, 802.11n).
  6. Once this is done and the file is extracted to the device it will have the “welcome” screen. Just put in the basic information such as Language, Country, WIFI password and iCloud settings. At the end of the set up you will have 3 options
    1. Set up as new device
    2. Restore from iTunes Backup
    3. Restore from iCloud Backup
  7. The introduction of iOS 5 in 2011 enabled users to be able to not worry about backing up their iOS device to iTunes instead whenever on charge and with WIFI on the iOS device, would automatically back up to iCloud. It is best to see if your daughter uses iTunes Backup or iCloud backup as most likely the iTunes Backup will either not exist or be well out of date. Therefore the iCloud Backup would be the most recent and probably be able to download everything back to the device.
  8. All you will need to do to get iCloud to download what was on the iPod recently is to put in the Apple iD associated with that account and then select the most recent backup to restore the iPod to.
  9. If it is a case of restoring the iPod from iTunes just plug the device in and then click on iPod. The you will see a screen that says summary and under backups click restore backups. This will put on the iPhone anything that was backed up however it may not be as recent as the iCloud Back up.
  10. Both these options will restore the iPod to the latest backup.

Good Luck and keep me posted!
