Running Mavericks 10.9.2 and can not stop interference by the apple TV remote.
Some have posted that the security privacy preferences pane will do this if you go to advanced.
I have done that and there is nothing there that addresses IR.

If you do not use the IR receiver, turn it off. To do it, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Advanced, and tick "Disable remote control infrared receiver".

Thanks mende1 but my drop down looks like nbar. Only problem is that my computer is responding to my remote so I assume it must have IR. I am stumped!
Do you have a USB keyboard and mouse? In this case, we can check if the Apple Remote is interfering with your Bluetooth connection somehow. Open System Preferences > Bluetooth and, if you have got a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, check that only these ones show up.
Follow mende1's lead, but for clarification's sake, what is the make/model of your machine?
I do have both a Bluetooth Keyboard and track pad. Only they show up in the preferences.
My machine is is the original post iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Mid 2010
The Mid 2010 iMac comes with a IR receiver. Are you sure you have the Mid 2010 iMac?
Do you have Mac OS X 10.6.8 or 10.9.2? The way to disable the IR receiver is not the same in Mac OS X 10.6.8 than in 10.9.2.
Sorry for the delay, had to leave town. Yes, I am sure I have a 2010 Mac and it is receiving my apple TV remote signals. I am also running 10.9.2
Can not turn off IR conflicts with remote. Any Ideas?
