Q: How do you determine how old a Macbook PRO is?

trying to upgrade to Maverick. Says Powerbook is not upgradeable, but I meet all the requirements. Just trying to confirm the age of my PRO.

Going to "more info" shows Processor, memory, graphics, serial number and software, but NOT year.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

You are using OS X Lion, so you can easily check which Mac you have by opening  > About this Mac > More Info. You will find your Mac model and its generation. You need a Mid/Late 2007 or newer MacBook Pro to upgrade to OS X Mavericks.

If you meet the requirements, open the Mac App Store and download Mavericks. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading and check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
