blu ray data drives

I am considering switching over from PC to MAC in the next year or so. In the meantime, I am looking to purchase a blu ray burner to back up my photos and videos as a secondary backup to an external hard drive.

1) I had heard that Macs don't like playing blu-ray discs but are there any issues with using a blu-ray to burn data files?

2) Are burner drives compatible with both PC/MAC?

3) For disks that I have burned using PC - can I later read using MAC or would I need to reburn them?

4) Any recommendations for a good blu-ray burner?

Thanks much.

an external hard drive is an external harddisk not an optical drive

optical backup is not very replable you would be better off backing up to an external hard drive really

buy 2 and alternate between them and keep one in a safe in side a vault in a mountain fortress
