Apr 13, 2014 10:57 AM in response to HappyTexasby Barney-15E,Mine do, but I always keep them hidden as they are not needed.
Open General System Prefs and set yours to always show.

Apr 13, 2014 11:19 AM in response to Meg The Dogby HappyTexas,Thanks, Meg, but that's exactly how my preferences have been set all along. Thus the questions of how to make the scrollbar actually work, as it did before the Mavericks monster came into my life.

Apr 13, 2014 11:20 AM in response to Barney-15Eby HappyTexas,Obviously, Barney, the scrollbar IS needed or I wouldn't have wasted time with the question.

Apr 13, 2014 2:38 PM in response to HappyTexasby Barney-15E,Once again, my scrollbars work. So, what is not working for you? I have no idea how it worked for you before Mavericks, so you'll have to actually supply some details to describe what it is you want and what it does now.

Apr 13, 2014 2:50 PM in response to HappyTexasby MichelPM,If you are referring to the backward scrolling that happens by default because Apple has set this scrolling behaviour for touch pads, you can have the usual scrolling behaviour back by going into the OS X System Preferences Panel, Click the mouse icon and at the top of then pop up preferences window, uncheck Natural scrolling.

Apr 21, 2014 6:39 PM in response to MichelPMby HappyTexas,No, I cannot do that, MichelPM. As I've stated repeatedly, the words "natural scrolling" do not appear anywhere on my computer unless I open this web page. That term is not in existence in my system preferences. It's just a lasting Mavericks mess.
Scrolling is so absolutely awful in Mail that I've just quite using Mail anymore. Why bother when it's so faulty I can't access most of the messages I get. It's easier, quicker, and much more effective to simply check manually with the various mail services I use instead of relying anymore on Mail being the functional, efficient, time-saving aggregate it was before the Mavericks de-evolution.
Mavericks is an embarrassment.

Then restore from your backup and use the old OS you are comfortable with. Mavericks obviously doesn't work for you.

Apr 21, 2014 7:20 PM in response to Barney-15Eby HappyTexas,Nope, Barney. Too much time and money invested in this "free" upgrade. It's got to improve. Apple can do better. Apple used to do better. They just need a fix, as evidenced by the many, many people writing about the same complaint. It's a design flaw. Design flaws can be fixed. Apple can do that.

Apr 21, 2014 7:23 PM in response to HappyTexasby MichelPM,Mavericks is just working fine on my Mac.
And my Mac is a five year old iMac at that.

Apr 21, 2014 7:34 PM in response to HappyTexasby Barney-15E,Apple has done great with mavericks. Best OS yet, but apparently you can't use it. Too bad.

Apr 25, 2014 1:52 PM in response to MichelPMby HappyTexas,So how does your status report address my problem, MichelPM?
-
Apr 25, 2014 1:53 PM in response to Barney-15Eby HappyTexas,Mavericks is nowhere near the best OS yet. It's the worst I've experienced in 21 years. By far.

ApplicationsHi,
It works by implication.
You have suggested in several threads covering several topics that something is wrong with Mavericks.
Despite suggestions to try various things inclucing EtreCheck, at least once, you insist that this is the case despite the number of people saying they have no problem.
Your posts are beginning to sound more like those of a troll rather than a frustrated Mac user.
