Q: Where are phone contacts stored on  the iPhone?

My father in law, 87 years of age, has recently moved from a Sony to an iPhone and I think in the shop they copied his contacts onto the micro sim in the iPhone.

The contacts are also on his iPad so I suspect vthey are in the cloud somewhere:)

He has been locked out of the the same Apple ID he uses on both so I am considering a factory reset on both as his date of birth verification is not working either.

The Find option is also set on both so thats another puzzle for tomorrow:)

How can I establish if the contacts are on the micro sim?

They are just fone numbers that we need for Viber/Whats App etc, no email addresses.

Thanks

The iPhone doesn't store contacts on the sim but it can import them from a sim so it is possible they are there from the time he had his old phone converted. I don't know of a way to verify that; it is possible that the shop that may have originally copied them has a device that can read the sim and that they could check. Here is some more info on the iPhone sim: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4994

If they are also on the iPad you should be able to get them back to the phone via iCloud. Getting his password for his Apple ID may be the greater challenge.

    Thanks FoxF

Spent 3 to 4 hours on this project today, with a lot of help from Apple fone support. Must say they are good.

As you said the contacts are in iCloud which he can now access and we can export from and import to.

We didnt have to recook either pad or phone so all is well.
