Q: iPhone/iPad can use Airplay with Apple TV; Mid 2012 Macbook Pro/MacBook Air cannot

I am attempting to mirror my Mid 2012 MacBook Pro's and/or my Mid 2012 MacBook Air's display on my AppeTV, but I am unsuccessful. I have done this before, so my hardware is capable. I moved to housing provided by my job, and for reason I'm unable to mirror my computer here. My iPhone 5S and iPad 2 are both able to mirror and push content to my AppleTV, but my computers "can't find it" when I select that option from the "Airplay" menu or iTunes. Anyone run into this before, or have any ideas? All software is up to date. Thanks!

    Hey thellamaPod,

Thanks for the question. The following resource provides troubleshooting information for AirPlay Mirroring in OS X. Usually, this may be caused by the firewall and a simple tweak of the settings should resolve your issue:

About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404

    Firewall security settings

If you use a firewall, make sure the following firewall security options have been set to allow AirPlay Mirroring to work:

    1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu ().

    2. Click Security & Privacy, then click Firewall.

    3. Click the lock icon to unlock it if it's locked, then type an administrator name and password.

    4. Click Firewall Options.

    5. Deselect (uncheck) the “Block all incoming connections” checkbox.

    6. Select (check) the “Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections” checkbox.

    Thanks,

    Matt M.

Thanks for the attempt, but I ran through all the canned Apple support available before posting this question. I changed my firewall settings without any luck.

    I appreciate the attempt.
