Do I need an Apple AirPort? Having connection issues

I am constantly having connection issues with my current modem/router combo provided by at&t on all of my Apple laptops (MacBook '07 & MacBook Pro '11), iPhones, & iPad. Internet connection goes in and out, nework diagnostics cannot determine the problem, and at&t cannot find a problem with the internet connection. I am wondering if switching my modem/router provided by at&t (it is a 2wire brand) for an Apple AirPort would help my home network?

Mac OS X (10.6.8), Also on Snow Leopard, iPhone & iPad
