How to turn off messages notification

How do I turn off the red notification icon? It shows whether I'm logged in or not.

If you don't want to see the badges showing new messages, open System Preferences and then Notifications. Select the iMessage app or any other you want to change and uncheck the box to show Badges. This will turn it off whether you are logged in or not.

You can't choose to show only when you are logged in to the app. If it is on, it will show it even if the app is not open.

As Carolyn said, once you read the message the badge number will clear and disappear until the next new message arrives.

HI,

Found it.

In Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars > Scroll down to see the Contacts section.

Choose Show In App Switcher > Turn off both Favourites and Recents.

This was on my iPhone where I can only see those pictures when going to the double home button click to dismiss or change Apps.
