Mid 2010 15-inch MacBooks Pro Video System Test said "Replace MLB"

Hi there,

Today I went down to A.Lab at Plaza Singapore (in Singapore) for apple service. Cos my mac enconter some problem.(summary of the problem: black screen then shut down itself then I have to turn on the power myself.) Please see this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6079116

After some test the guy told me I fail the Video System Test. Then asked me to call Apple to see if I can get the part or price to fix the problem.

I had scheduled a call with apple so that they will call me. How much will they charge me? Can I exchange it for free? (Mine is past 3 yrs) May I know what is the consumer laws for Singapore? Cos I heard EU laws, the couverage is like 6 yrs and UK is 7 yrs. According to this thread http://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/1vfyki/2011_macbook_pros_are_all_beginnin g_to_fail_23/

What shall I do? Thanks. (I'm from Singapore.)

Thanks!

Mac OS X (10.6.8)

nana4design,

you might want to contact Jing You — he’s in Singapore, and he was able to get his logic board replaced gratis despite being outside of Apple’s three-year window.

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) in England and Wales is what provides six years of coverage from the date of purchase there. [The analogous law in Scotland, the Sale of Goods Act 1982 (as amended), provides five years of coverage from the date of discovery.] Jurisdictions in the EU require the seller to provide a minimum of two years of coverage from the date of purchase, due to Directive 1999/44/EC. When you discover what coverage Singaporean law provides, please include that information in your reply, so that others in Singapore will benefit from your research.

Hi Melophage,

Thanks for the reply.

I contacted Apple. They have been very nice to me and will replace that MLB free of charge for me. However they said there might be labor cost charges. But this morning, I called again to ask how much is going to cost me for the labor cost. Well, this time the one of the guy said that my case is free no labor cost charges he said he will call again to confirm this with me. (Is a relief that my macbookpro can be fixed cos need to work with the machine)

Tonight I'm going to bring down my macbookpro to the A.Lab at Plaza Singapore for services.

The end result absolutely free or partial free I will update this post here.

For the Singapore law provides, I'm not sure and hope someone who knows will post here so it benefits other people.

nana4design,

have you considered trying a Web search with your preferred search engine? By putting in the keywords singapore "consumer protection" in a Web search, this page at the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Singapore was returned at the top of the list. I suggest that you start by reading both the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act as well as its 2012 amendment (the amendment was nicknamed “the Lemon Law”), to discover what your rights are under Singaporean law.
